Jason Williams Experience

About Me

In November, 2023 I was appointed to the position of District Court Judge of the Second Judicial District by the Governor’s office to fill the unexpired term of Judge Chris McLendon, who retired. I am running this November to continue my work on the bench as a District Court Judge.

Prior to my appointment, I practiced law in Washington, North Carolina for 20 years during which I handled a host of civil, criminal and juvenile cases.

I represented clients in matters including family law (divorce, child custody, property distribution), criminal law (felonies, misdemeanors, and traffic tickets) and juvenile law (child welfare and juvenile delinquency). Before I opened my private practice, I was an Assistant Public Defender in Pitt County and I began my legal career at Pamlico Sound Legal Services (now Legal Aid of North Carolina) in New Bern.

I am a proud native of eastern North Carolina, having grown up in the southern Pitt County town of Grifton. I graduated from Ayden-Grifton High School in 1990.  I graduated with honors from East Carolina University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. I then obtained my law degree at the University of Florida College of Law in 1997. After passing the North Carolina Bar, I was sworn in as an attorney on September 12, 1997.

I have lived in Washington since 2005, along with my wife and our teenage daughter. In my free time, I enjoy running with members of my running group and kayaking the waterways of eastern North Carolina.
